O Holy Night
A 24-hour retreat on popular Advent and Christmas hymns
Retreat starts Friday with rosary and Mass at 7:00pm, ends Saturday with Sunday Vigil Mass and 6pm Supper.
Director of the Retreat House for eleven years, Fr. Gary Coulter looks forward to combining his love for music with a preparation of our hearts for this holy season. “Some of our most beloved and well-known hymns are Advent and Christmas carols,” said Fr. Coulter. “But even more they often have a rich history and a theological beauty to them.”
Discover the rich and ancient Advents hymns like “Creator of the Stars of Night” “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”, and “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence.” Early Latin forms of Christmas carols include “Of the Father’s Love Begotten,” “Christ was Born on Christmas Day,” “Good Christian Men, Rejoice” and “Good King Wenceslas” along with more modern and popular Christmas carols like “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “What Child is This” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem.”
In-person at the Retreat House, the retreats include meditations by the retreat master, the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation, extended opportunities for silence and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and other devotions.
Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House offers a sanctuary of prayer and recollection on a spacious acreage near Waverly. There are 50 single rooms, each with a private bath. A few double rooms are available upon request.
